Henley from Below

Nothing makes us happier than seeing pictures of our customers with their RuckRafts and the adventures they get up to, but this one is even more special for us.

Cerian and Gareth met on our Ruckraft Retreat in Devon and stayed in touch. Last year they reunited for a dip in the Thames near Henley. Gareth shared their trip and some lovely pictures from their swim.

“We met at Shiplake station south of Henley; a short stroll from the riverbank with a 2km route in mind: with flow and lots of early exit options. Securing our clothes, towels and flasks in Cerian’s newly acquired Ruckraft, we braced themselves for the cool waters of the Thames.

“ Cerian, made of sterner stuff and a seasoned long distance swimmer was content reminding herself what a wetsuit felt like. With temperatures of around 9.5 degrees, on the other hand I was glad I had procured some neoprene gloves during the week. Sliding along the bottom of the gardens of the well-heeled properties near Henley certainly gives another perspective: intricate wishing wells, tennis courts and bespoke wooden “garages”for the boats were all viewed from a new watery angle.

“Riverboats cruised past with waves, mostly heading the other way and giving a wide berth as they made their way towards Marsh Lock. Around 2km with some flow and forty minutes later we alighted on the riverbank to the amusement of some Hunter welly-clad walkers. Cold was starting to make an appearance but after a speedy change and a slug of hot chocolate and tea from the flasks all that remained was a stroll into Henley for coffee and a bite to eat before the train back to London.”

Hope we can join you for the next one.
