Go where you want. Take what you need. We call it Cross Country Swimming. Here are some of our adventures.
ROUTES OVER LAND & WATER
In 2012 we created The Swimmer, a journey through London’s best ponds, parks and pools. Then we left the city for swimming, hiking, and running adventures across countryside, coast, rivers, bays and lakes. Epic, self-supported routes over land and water.
Enjoyment, not endurance.
13.1 MILES, LONDON
Above Below’s first event was The Swimmer. All the way back in 2012, it was the UK’s first swim/run event – but in a very different and unofficial sense. The Swimmer is a relaxed half-marathon journey from north to south through London’s best pools, ponds and parks.
8.2 MILES, CAMBRIDGE
Punting, poets, nudity, swan fights and Jesus. Our first trip to the wonderfully eccentric Newnham Swimming club via the Orchard Tea Rooms and two mile swim up the River Cam followed by a run through Cambridge to Jesus Green Lido.
the lake district – part I
Windermere to Coniston
Our first foray into Cross Country Swimming and written up in The Guardian. This route took in Goat Tarn, Levers Water and Loughrigg Tarn.
the lake district – part II
Brockhole to langdale
The Lakes. The perfect spot for Cross Country Swimming, the possibilities are endless. Here’s a trip from Brockhole to Loughrigg Tarn and Langdale YHA. With a day two of Grasmere, Rydal Water and a trip up to Buckstone’s Jum. This trip was photographed with amazing flare and beauty by Jason Evans.
More routes in the Lake District, Dover to Deal, Henley to Hurley Lock, Broadstairs to Botany Bay, and the Wye Valley.
